The Public Affairs Section of the embassy presented the Supreme Court with a set of the Library Digest Review at the offices of the Supreme Court in Wellington, where they will be used to enhance legal research.

An alumna of Stanford University, Supreme Court Justice Dame Sian Elias expressed her delight at the presentation of these legal resources by Ambassador William McCormick, saying that it would greatly enhance the collection of their new library.

The Court’s Librarian “summed up” the value of these books by saying, “It will help increase the depth of our research into American law.  The material in them will extend the coverage from the two great American encyclopedias (one of which we have, the other is at the Victoria University Library) to extend our understanding of the American way of thinking about law.  It is this way of thinking which can, at times, be so very different from the way New Zealanders think, and can at other times be so very similar.  Grasping the essence of those similarities and differences can be vital to our use of American material in interpreting New Zealand law.”
