Political & Economic Section
The Political and Economic section promotes American foreign policy interests and reports on key developments in New Zealand. The section represents official U.S. Government views to the government of New Zealand on bilateral and multilateral issues. The members of the section:
- Promote understanding of U.S. political, economic, and environmental policies.
- Encourage policy coordination with New Zealand in matters of mutual concern, including counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, non-proliferation, trade policy, telecommunications, civil aviation, intellectual property, and the environment, including fisheries management, whaling, and biodiversity.
- Promote Antarctic science and preservation through support of the U.S. Antarctic Program based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
