Ambassador Attends Opening of MacKay's Crossing Overbridge Project - 24 March

Ambassador McCormick, with Gunnery Sergeant James Sheppard, assisted Minister of Transport, the Hon. Annette King, to open the McKay's Crossing Overbridge Project on State Highway 1 near Paekakariki. The last major engineering project on the same site was during World War II when thousands of U.S. Marines were encamped in the area. In his remarks Ambassador McCormick congratulated Transit New Zealand on a job well done. The historical site, he said, reminded him that "Americans still appreciated the hospitality and friendship that was extended to the young U.S. Marines in New Zealand". (photos)
