The Federal Bureau of Investigation office with jurisdiction over New Zealand is based in Canberra. The goal of the FBI Legal Attache is to establish and maintain liaison with the principal law enforcement agencies in New Zealand and the South Pacific region in order to promote prompt and continuous exchanges of information. In-country liaison enables the FBI to effectively and expeditiously meet its international investigative responsibilities in drugs/organized crime, white-collar crime, international terrorism, and general criminal matters.
