American Football Championships in Wellington.

American Ambassador Bill McCormick with Coach Michael Wilson of the Hutt Valley Titans, who has just received the Ambassador’s Cup after his team’s victory in the American Football Wellington Capital Bowl, played February 11 at Sladden Park in Petone.  The Cup recognizes the contributions of the American Embassy in support of American football in New Zealand.

The Hutt Valley Titans after their victory in the Capital Bowl.  The Titans are the 2006 champions of the American Football Wellington Southern Conference.

The Titans defeated the Porirua City Knights (in black) in the championship game in Petone.  The game was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation time.  The titans scored on the final play of the 4th overtime period to win 21-19.  Here the Knights are on offense against the Titans.  To accommodate the smaller number of players, the rules are adapted for 7-man play instead of the usual 11 on a side.
